Exterior paint has a hard job in Cape Town
The outside of a house deals with strong summer sun, winter rain, wind and, closer to the sea, salt in the air. Paint that is applied over dirty, chalky or cracked surfaces soon starts to peel, blister or fade.
That is why most of an exterior job is preparation. We clean and repair the surfaces first, then use coatings suited to the conditions your home faces.
Weather and exposure we plan for
Sun
UV breaks down paint and fades colour, especially on north- and west-facing walls. We use UV-resistant exterior products.
Rain and damp
Moisture gets in through cracks and causes blistering. Repairs and the right primer come before the top coats.
Coastal air
Salt settles on walls and metal near the sea. Surfaces are washed and metal is treated before coating.
Exterior surfaces we paint
- Exterior walls, plastered and textured
- Trims, fascias and barge boards
- Doors and window frames
- Boundary walls
- Wooden decks and fences (staining and sealing)
- Metal gates and railings
- Roofs, on request
Preparation and coating
- Inspect. Check for cracks, damp, flaking paint and mould.
- Clean. Pressure clean walls and remove mould and loose material.
- Repair. Fill cracks and patch damaged areas.
- Prime. Apply primer or sealer where the surface needs it.
- Coat. Apply the agreed exterior paint system, then check the work with you.
We use established paint brands such as Dulux and Plascon and recommend products for your walls and exposure when we quote.
Planning around the weather
Exterior paint needs dry conditions to cure properly. We plan exterior work for suitable weather and will discuss timing with you if rain or strong wind is forecast.
How quotes work
Use the form above, call us or WhatsApp photos of the outside of the house. For exterior work we usually need to see the walls to assess repairs and access. Quotes are free and there is no call-out fee.
The team from Painter Cape Town did an excellent job on my kitchen. They were punctual, friendly, and the results exceeded my expectations. Thank you for the amazing work Ryan!
We couldn’t be happier with the work Painter Cape Town did for our house in Tableview! From the very first consultation, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to understand exactly what we wanted. Our walls were looking dull and uneven after years of wear, and they completely transformed our space with a fresh, flawless finish. The attention to detail, smooth paintwork, and vibrant colours have made our home look brighter, cleaner, and more modern. We’ve had so many compliments from friends and family — we highly recommend Ryan and the Painter Cape Town Team to anyone looking for quality and professionalism!
I absolutely loved the outcome of my bedroom and bathroom painting work that was done! Ryan and crew were efficient and skilled. I couldn’t be happier with the finished look.
Questions homeowners ask
Why is preparation so important outside?
Paint only lasts as long as the surface under it. Dirt, mould, salt and loose paint stop new paint from bonding, and cracks let water in behind it.
When is the best time to paint the outside of a house in Cape Town?
Dry, mild weather is best, so many people plan exterior work outside the winter rainy season. We discuss timing with you when we quote.
Do you paint boundary walls and gates?
Yes. Boundary walls, metal gates and railings can be included in your exterior quote.
My house is near the sea. Does that change anything?
Yes. Salt in the air means more thorough washing, and metal needs treatment before it is painted. We take exposure into account when we recommend products.
Can you do the inside as well?
Yes. See our interior painting service, or ask for both in one quote.
